A brief introduction, and welcome to our new blog...
A brief introduction....
For someone who has had a profound love (and somewhat of an addiction) for the Internet, ever since the very early days when there really was not that much to be found that was of any interest, I'm surprisingly technophobic. I don't do instant messengers of any kind, I prefer my music to come out of the radio and on CD, and I've never figured out how to watch the TV through this thing. I don't really 'get' MySpace, Facebook or any of the rest of it. I certainly have no idea how you're supposed to do any of it through your mobile phone! Knowing this, it still baffles me to this day how I ended up running a website for a living? :/
But, here I am. My love of piercings did not seem to fit well with my chosen subject of study (accounting! LOL) so I always knew there was a choice to be faced at some point - and when it came to it, it really wasn't that difficult. Pierced & Modified was born in 2002, around the same time as I started my degree. By the time I graduated, in 2006, there were three (or four? I forget) of us working here - now between the shop and the office there are a few more than that :D In 2002 the empire consisted of a tiny indoor market stall in Glasgow, offering the vast choice of about 100 belly bars and a couple of trays of tongue bars, lip studs and eyebrow rings. These days we have about 5,000 body jewellery products - and the selection grows regularly - available for mail order on the website, and a shop full of clothing, accessories, shoes, bags, make-up and of course jewellery.
Now, that's all very well, but what's the point of this blog, exactly? you may be wondering by now. Well, with all those years comes a fair bit of knowledge - we're forever being asked all sorts of questions about body jewellery and piercings in general, and we love to answer those questions - but can't help but think sometimes, how much easier would it be if we could just have a big page for questions and things. We tried to add new guides and information pages to the website, but it made it look messy - so someone suggested a blog. So, here I am :) You'll mostly be hearing from me, since everyone else is too busy doing boring work.
I'll be updating the blog with the answers to commonly asked questions, such as 'how exactly do you open a ball closure ring?' and random piercing information and other titbits I think you may find interesting, as well as details and pictures of new products and stuff we introduce to the site :)
Anyway - that's all for just now. We'll add all sorts of more interesting stuff than this in the coming weeks, I promise.
